2019 LGBT Family Law Institute

Friday, August 9, 2019

The 2019 LGBT Family Law Institute® will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Friday, August 9th as part of the National LGBT Bar Association's 2019 Annual Lavender Law
® Conference & Career Fair.

The Institute, a joint venture of the LGBT Bar and the National Center for Lesbian Rights, allows experienced LGBT family law practitioners to share collective wisdom and to discuss cutting-edge legal strategies for representing members of the LGBT community.

In order to create an environment where there can be a free flow of information, the meetings are closed and are not recorded. Registration is limited and priority is given to participants whose work history qualifies them as seasoned attorneys. The Institute is evaluating whether to provide continuing legal education (CLE) credit for all or part of the day this year; more information will follow as the schedule develops.

Institute sessions are not formal lectures, but rather are structured to encourage participation from everyone in attendance. Further, the LGBT Family Law Institute® gives participants an opportunity to network with lawyers from other states in order to build a cadre of family law practitioners throughout the country.

The form below is required for all potential attendees of the Annual Meeting. Attendees will be selected based first and foremost on existing LGBT Bar and Family Law Institute membership. Active members of the Family Lw Institute will automatically be accepted and sent a registration code. Non-members must go through an additional screening process and will be contacted with further details.

The cost of the LGBT Family Law Institute® includes registration to attend the rest of the 2019 Annual Lavender Law® Conference August 7-9th, 2019. FLI is committed to assuring diversity in its membership, including attorneys whose practices provide services primarily to low income populations; LGBT communities in hostile states/areas; and LGBT communities in areas without significant numbers of lawyers experienced in LGBT family law and allied practices.

In order to assist in maintaining this type of diversity, NCLR and FLI work together to provide scholarships appropriate to allow lower income lawyers and lawyers in underserved/hostile communities to attend FLI meetings. Scholarship requests should be submitted to Judi O'Kelley at All requests will be held in confidence. Scholarships are granted on a rolling basis, so the earlier the request is made, the more opportunities there may be for funds to be allocated.

If you are interested in participating in the LGBT Family Law Institute®, please fill in the information below. You will not be asked for payment information at this time. A staff member of the LGBT Bar will contact you with further details on the registration process. Thank you.
